Description:

  • Going is a travel-tech company with over 2M subscribers, evolving from a deal-alert platform to a data-powered travel experience.
  • The Senior Data Engineer will lead the design, building, and scaling of a robust data infrastructure.
  • This role is crucial for shaping the future of the data ecosystem, ensuring it is scalable, efficient, and supports high-impact decision-making.
  • The position involves combining technical expertise with strategic leadership and collaborating across teams to enhance data capabilities.
  • Key responsibilities include designing complex data pipelines and ETL processes, developing and maintaining a data lakehouse, and optimizing data ingestion and storage strategies.
  • The engineer will create best practices for data engineering, collaborate with data science teams, and ensure high availability and performance of data infrastructure.
  • The role includes mentoring junior team members and troubleshooting data infrastructure issues.
  • This position reports to the Director of Data.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in data engineering, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role is required.
  • Proficiency in big data technologies such as Spark and Kafka, as well as distributed computing frameworks is necessary.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS EMR, Glue, and Databricks is essential.
  • Expertise in Python, SQL, and modern data engineering frameworks such as dbt and Airflow is required.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes is needed.
  • A strong track record of delivering scalable and resilient data pipelines is essential.
  • Experience with advanced analytics workflows and supporting machine learning models is required.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and translate technical challenges into business solutions is necessary.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and data governance best practices is preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and able to work US-hours.

  • The starting salary for this role is $165,000 plus equity.
