Description:
The New York Times is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Messaging Platforms group, which is focused on customer acquisition, engagement, and reader loyalty.
The role involves building data pipelines, data models, applications, and infrastructure for cloud platforms that process billions of messages monthly.
Responsibilities include creating ETL data pipelines, contributing to a shared data platform, assembling large datasets, automating data transformation pipelines, implementing data processing capabilities, and building reliable data products.
The position requires limited on-call hours, with a schedule determined upon joining the team.
The candidate will work collaboratively with engineers, designers, and product managers in an organization that values empathy, collaboration, transparency, diversity, and learning.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 5 years of professional experience in Data Engineering.
A minimum of 5 years of experience with SQL and query optimization is required.
Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience with cloud infrastructure architecture and configuration, particularly with cloud-native data-warehousing solutions like Snowflake or BigQuery.
A minimum of 3 years of experience writing production-quality Python or another scripting language is necessary.
Candidates must have 3 years of experience building and orchestrating ETL pipelines using tools such as Apache Airflow, DBT Cloud, or BigQuery.
Experience with cloud computing platforms like GCP or AWS is required.
Familiarity with Git and CI/CD systems such as Drone or Jenkins is necessary.
Strong experience with Terraform or a similar Infrastructure as Code platform is required.
Benefits:
The annual base pay range for this role is between $140,000 and $155,000 USD.
