The Engineering group at Oportun is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software solutions that support the company's mission.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be part of the Enterprise Data and Technology (EDT) team, focusing on corporate data assets' quality, availability, and security.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable software solutions.
Your responsibilities include designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining high-quality software applications.
You will write clean, maintainable code, participate in code reviews, and address technical debt and performance issues.
You will stay updated with emerging technologies and propose innovative solutions to enhance products and services.

Requirements:

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field is required.
A minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role is necessary.
Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, PySpark, or Scala is essential.
Expertise in big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka is required.
Proficiency in SQL and experience with database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and NoSQL databases is needed.
Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, GCP, and their data services is important.
Experience with versioning tools like Bitbucket, GitHub, and GitLab is required.
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, data modeling, and data pipeline processes is necessary.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential.
Strong communication and collaboration abilities are required.
Knowledge of FinTech is a plus, and familiarity or certification in Databricks is also advantageous.
