Description:
Rerun is building a new multimodal data stack for robotics and spatial AI, focusing on the data infrastructure and tools necessary for these technologies.
The role involves working on a cloud-native analytical database system designed for multimodal (often time-series) data.
The system is column-oriented, built around Apache Arrow, and must support specialized query semantics for handling robotics-style multimodal logs, which consist of very sparse and wide tables.
Storage is separate from the query engine and consists of heterogeneous file types, typically stored in the customer's cloud.
High-performance queries will require building and maintaining indices into these files.
The engineer will design and implement core components to ensure the data-intensive system is highly scalable.
Requirements:
Candidates should possess an ownership mindset and a helpful attitude with a curious mind.
A deep understanding of the systems, layers, and abstractions between the code and hardware is essential.
Experience with async Rust in production is required.
Candidates must have experience building highly scalable data-intensive systems.
Comfort with concepts such as query planning, push-down filtering, and query optimization is necessary.
Great communication skills in English are required, as the role involves working in a tight-knit remote team.
Prior knowledge of robotics is not necessary.
