Wealthsimple is seeking a Senior Data Scientist specializing in large language models (LLMs) to join their Data Products Team.
The role involves utilizing LLMs to transform various aspects of the business, including product offerings, customer service, and internal operations.
The Data Products Team is responsible for building and productionalizing machine learning models that provide critical predictions for the business.
The candidate will guide the adoption and application of LLMs within the organization, ensuring their safe and effective use.
Responsibilities include taking end-to-end ownership of the model building lifecycle, from ideation to production deployment.
Continuous learning and staying updated with trends in data science and fintech, particularly in LLMs and prompt engineering, is essential.
Collaboration with domain experts and cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for machine learning innovation is required.
The candidate will leverage a state-of-the-art ML platform to monitor model performance and identify opportunities for re-training.
Software engineering best practices, such as version control and continuous integration, must be applied to the code base.
The role emphasizes simplicity and effectiveness in problem-solving, adhering to the principle of Occam's razor.
The candidate will also engage in teaching and learning within the team to foster a culture of continuous knowledge sharing.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a data scientist or machine learning engineer, focusing on Natural Language Processing (NLP), Reinforcement Learning (RL), or LLMs is required.
Proficiency in Python and familiarity with key data science and machine learning libraries and tools is essential.
Demonstrated experience in productionalizing ML models, owning the full lifecycle from ideation to deployment and maintenance is necessary.
A deep understanding of large language models such as GPT-4 and their applications and limitations is required.
Familiarity with LLM concepts like fine-tuning models and libraries such as Langchain is expected.
Solid knowledge of data engineering and preprocessing, including handling large datasets and managing data pipelines is needed.
Comfort with software engineering best practices, including version control and using Git for collaborative development is essential.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively are required.
Excellent communication skills to convey complex ideas clearly to various audiences are necessary.
Outstanding interpersonal skills to thrive in collaborative settings and contribute positively to team environments are essential.
Familiarity with AI ethics and responsible AI practices, ensuring solutions are effective and ethical, is required.
