Remote Senior Database Engineer (DBA)

Description:

• The Senior Database Engineer at Motive will be responsible for ensuring that databases are performant, reliable, scalable, and automated, overseeing more than 100 databases, primarily PostgreSQL.
• The role involves working with AWS managed data layer services like MySQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, and Redshift, collaborating with product team engineers on database performance analysis and optimizations.
• Responsibilities include designing high availability database architecture in AWS, automating infrastructure provisioning, monitoring and improving database performance, optimizing queries, automating routine database administration tasks, disaster recovery planning, building dashboards for database health, and executing zero-downtime upgrades and maintenance.
• The Senior Database Engineer will also work on Terraform deployments, manage database security policies, collaborate with Data and ML teams on integrations, and respond to production incidents on-call.

Requirements:

• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of experience with PostgreSQL, including building and maintaining mission-critical production databases.
• Solid understanding of PostgreSQL database architecture, AWS database services experience, and knowledge of high-availability, backup, and recovery solutions.
• Advanced knowledge of query tuning and optimization techniques, experience with provisioning PostgreSQL databases in AWS using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible.
• Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools like Datadog, New Relic, Sumo Logic, connection pooling tools, and other databases like MySQL, DynamoDB, Redshift, Elasticsearch, Snowflake is a plus.
