As a Database Engineer, you will ensure the performance, reliability, scalability, and automation of databases.
You will oversee more than 100 databases, primarily PostgreSQL, and support AWS managed data layer services.
Responsibilities include designing high availability database architecture in AWS and automating infrastructure provisioning.
You will monitor and improve database performance through proactive maintenance and collaborate with developers for query optimization.
The role involves automating routine database tasks, planning disaster recovery scenarios, and building health dashboards.
You will perform Terraform deployments, manage database upgrades with minimal downtime, and oversee database security policies.
On-call duty to respond to production incidents is also part of the role.
Requirements:
A B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience is required.
A minimum of 5 years of experience working with PostgreSQL is necessary.
Experience in building and maintaining mission-critical production PostgreSQL databases is essential.
A solid understanding of PostgreSQL database architecture, including locking and transaction logging, is required.
Experience with AWS database services, such as RDS/Aurora, is needed.
Knowledge of high-availability, backup, and recovery solutions and strategies is important.
Advanced skills in query tuning and optimization techniques are required.
Experience provisioning PostgreSQL databases in AWS using tools like Terraform is necessary.
Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools like Datadog and New Relic is required.
Experience with connection pooling tools and other databases like MySQL and DynamoDB is a plus.
