As a Senior Engineer at Beyond, you will develop and enhance high-performance backend systems for search, including document indexing, query processing, ranking, and retrieval.
You will lead initiatives to modernize traditional keyword-based search by incorporating semantic search, vector-based retrieval, and LLM-integrated components.
The role involves building scalable data pipelines (batch and streaming) to process and enrich catalog data and maintain an up-to-date search index.
You will ensure optimal performance, reliability, and observability of search APIs and services.
The position requires driving continuous improvement through A/B testing and evaluation of search quality using offline and live metrics.
You will participate in architectural decisions, mentor team members, and uphold strong engineering practices.
Staying up to date with advancements in search, machine learning, and recommendation systems is essential, applying them to real-world production systems.

Requirements:

A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is required.
You must have 5+ years of experience designing and deploying large-scale distributed backend systems.
Proficiency with big data technologies such as Apache Beam, Google Pub/Sub, and Redis is necessary.
Strong coding skills in Python and JavaScript/Node.js are required, with experience in Scala or Golang considered a bonus.
Experience working with ElasticSearch or similar search platforms is essential.
You should be comfortable with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
Proficiency in API development using REST and GraphQL is required.
Familiarity with modern cloud infrastructure (GCP or AWS), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD practices, and observability tooling is necessary.
Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment.
