Description:

The Senior Engineer, Telemetry position at Canonical focuses on securing and managing Ubuntu on IoT devices globally.
The role involves collaborating with a globally distributed team to build a cloud-native solution for large-scale estate and fleet management.
Responsibilities include writing scalable service APIs in Python and Golang, developing observability, remote logging, data acquisition, alert and notification, and edge processing capabilities.
The engineer will work on developing both a cloud-based SaaS offering and a containerized local on-prem solution.
Designing and implementing new features and enhancements from spec to production at scale is a key aspect of the role.
The position also involves reviewing code and technical designs produced by other engineers, discussing ideas, and collaborating on finding solutions.
The role requires remote work with global travel for internal and external events.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate should have a passion for open-source software, Linux, and web services at scale.
They should be curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable, with a value for soft skills and traits like being passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated.
A broad technology base with a preference for backend code and infrastructure is desired.
Understanding of cybersecurity and the challenges of the IoT environment is essential.
Proficiency in telemetry systems, data streaming technologies, observability and monitoring systems, and security/IAM models application is required.
Experience in developing tooling and libraries, designing and implementing back-end web services, messaging/data pipelines, and REST APIs using Python and/or Golang is necessary.
Comfort with Ubuntu as a development and deployment platform is a must.
A Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field is required.
