Description:

Virta Health is seeking a Senior Generative AI Engineer to help shape the future of its AI-powered coaching experience aimed at reversing chronic conditions like diabetes and obesity.
The role involves evolving Virta’s GPT-based chatbot, Viv, into a powerful platform that supports coaches, engages members, and drives health outcomes.
The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, design, and engineering, to solve complex problems at the intersection of Generative AI and behavior change.
Responsibilities include designing and implementing core infrastructure, contributing to the technical strategy for conversational AI, writing production-grade code, mentoring teammates, and measuring chatbot performance through data-driven iteration.
The first 90 days will involve immersing in existing architecture, building and experimenting with prompt engagement, and extending technical ownership to define proactive use cases and mentor other engineers.

Requirements:

Candidates must have experience with large language models (LLMs) such as OpenAI’s GPT, including prompt engineering and tuning for performance and engagement.
Strong software engineering skills in Python and experience writing production-quality code are required.
Proven ability to design and build ML systems end-to-end, including experimentation frameworks and real-time pipelines, is essential.
Experience deploying ML models in production environments, preferably on cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform (GCP), is necessary.
A background in building or contributing to internal platforms/tools used across multiple teams or products is required.
Familiarity with experimentation methods, including A/B testing and evaluation of conversational systems, is important.
Candidates should be comfortable working cross-functionally and possess strong communication and technical leadership skills.
A track record of using data to inform iteration, particularly with user-facing ML products, is essential.

The compensation range for this role is $220,439 - $276,101, based on qualifications and experience.
