The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product, design, engineering, and clinical experts, to evolve Viv, Virta’s GPT-powered chatbot, into a scalable platform.
Responsibilities include designing and implementing core infrastructure for prompt orchestration, context management, experimentation, and evaluation at scale.
The engineer will contribute to the technical strategy for conversational AI, write production-grade code, and build robust ML systems that support continuous learning and iteration.
Mentoring and guiding teammates across disciplines to elevate engineering practices and GenAI fluency is also a key responsibility.
The engineer will measure and improve chatbot performance through data-driven iteration, focusing on member engagement, response quality, and outcome achievement.
A 90-day plan includes immersing in existing architecture, leading experiments, and taking on larger technical ownership to drive engagement and health outcomes.
Requirements:
Candidates must have experience with large language models (LLMs) such as OpenAI’s GPT, including prompt engineering and tuning for performance and engagement.
Strong software engineering skills in Python and experience writing production-quality code are required.
Proven ability to design and build ML systems end-to-end, including experimentation frameworks, real-time pipelines, and monitoring infrastructure is essential.
Experience deploying ML models in production environments, preferably on cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform (GCP), is necessary.
A background in building or contributing to internal platforms/tools used across multiple teams or products is required.
Familiarity with experimentation methods, including A/B testing and evaluation of conversational systems, is important.
Candidates should be comfortable working cross-functionally and have strong communication and technical leadership skills.
A track record of using data to inform iteration, particularly with user-facing ML products, is essential.
Benefits:
The compensation range for this role is $220,439 - $276,101, based on qualifications and experience.
Virta Health offers a values-driven culture that prioritizes people, ownership, positive impact, transparency, and evidence-based practices.
