Description:

  • Brandwatch is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their team in Brighton, UK, focusing on high-volume data processing and storage platforms.
  • The role involves building, monitoring, and maintaining core product functionalities.
  • Responsibilities include collaborating with infrastructure and application teams to enhance data processing systems.
  • The engineer will work in an agile team, translating requirements into technical solutions alongside the product manager and engineering lead.
  • Key tasks include building RESTful APIs in Java using the Spring Framework and PostgreSQL, as well as developing data processing pipelines and analytics APIs with Kafka, Lucene, and Solr.
  • The position also requires monitoring system performance and implementing optimizations.
  • The engineer will assist in hiring, training, onboarding, and mentoring team members.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have extensive professional experience with Java.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL database design and implementation is required.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and build automation systems such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins CI is necessary.
  • Experience in horizontally scaled, data-intensive environments is essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills are necessary for the role.
  • Knowledge of service-oriented architecture, big data systems, and distributed computing is expected.
  • Candidates should be comfortable working with Unix/Linux operating systems and command line environments.
