Oportun is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead the development of its ML infrastructure, from model training to deployment.
The role involves conceiving and implementing a state-of-the-art machine learning infrastructure and solving business problems with AI/ML solutions.
Responsibilities include leading the implementation of ML infrastructure, providing technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers, managing critical projects, collaborating with data scientists, establishing best practices for model versioning and evaluation, architecting model deployment strategies, engineering automated CI/CD pipelines, defining performance benchmarks, and integrating industry trends into the ML ecosystem.

Requirements:

A minimum of 6 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a Master's degree with equivalent education and experience.
Extensive experience in developing end-to-end machine learning infrastructure for large-scale applications.
Proven leadership skills with a track record of guiding technical teams to achieve innovative outcomes.
Experience delivering high-quality ML solutions and exceptional problem-solving skills.
Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
Mastery of machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, along with proficiency in Python programming.
Expertise in containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for machine learning applications.
Knowledge of software engineering principles, version control (Git), and collaborative development workflows.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and cloud-native services for ML infrastructure.
Experience integrating DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration in a team-oriented environment.
