Remote Senior Network Engineer - Routing/Switching

Description:

• Summit is seeking a highly technical and experienced Senior Network Engineer with strong Juniper and EVPN skills.
• The role focuses on networking architecture and operations, including layer 2, layer 3, virtual networks, and routing protocols.
• The Network Engineer will carry out network administration functions for both customer-facing and internal systems.
• Responsibilities include assisting with design and administrative requirements to ensure an efficient, reliable, and secure customer experience.
• The position requires bringing customer support engagements and projects to conclusion, including the development of operating procedures, instruction and training, and required documentation.
• The work allows for independent judgment, thought, and creativity.
• The role involves interfacing with customers, vendors, and internal staff, functioning as an escalation point for Network Engineering staff and advanced customer support.
• The engineer will provision customer interfaces and managed hardware in close coordination with customers.
• Maintaining and promoting Summit's top-quality support and customer satisfaction is essential.
• Responsibilities also include monitoring task workflow, customer communications, and trouble ticket generation, escalation, and resolution.
• Adherence to Change Control processes and ensuring compliance requirements are met is required, along with participation in a weekly on-call rotation and escalation trees.
• The engineer will review reports of backbone circuit, transit provider, and customer routing/switching issues.
• Collaboration with team members across multiple geographic locations and time zones is necessary to ensure thorough task completion.
• Proactive monitoring and troubleshooting of the Summit network for stability and performance is expected.
• The engineer will create, modify, and improve documentation supporting the Engineering teams and propose, develop, and complete projects as required.

Requirements:

• A minimum of 5 years of operational experience in Service Provider or Enterprise IT Campus/Datacenter is required.
• At least 3 years of operational experience with Juniper MX / PTX / QFX / EX platforms is necessary.
• Extensive working knowledge of Juniper JUNOS / JUNOS Evo is required.
• Candidates must have extensive operational experience with routing protocols, including BGP and OSPF.
• Extensive operational experience with networking protocols and standards, including EVPN, VXLAN, VRRP, LACP, and VLANs, is essential.
• Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills are required.
• A demonstrated willingness to learn, teach, and share knowledge is necessary.
• Operational experience with configuration and troubleshooting of cloud and hypervisor networking is required.
• A typical understanding of internet applications such as HTTP/S, SMTP, and DNS is expected.

• The pay range for this position is $90,000-$165,000 per year, with actual base salary varying based on relevant skills, prior experience, education, and other factors.
