Remote Senior Postgres Database Engineer

Description:

• As a Senior Database Reliability Engineer specializing in PostgreSQL, you will design, manage, and optimize cloud-based PostgreSQL database infrastructure.
• You will ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of database systems while fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
• The role requires deep operational expertise in PostgreSQL, experience with Azure, and a strategic mindset to drive database solutions.
• Key responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining PostgreSQL database systems in cloud environments, primarily Azure.
• You will conduct performance tuning and optimization of database queries, indexes, and configurations.
• You will develop and manage robust backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
• Implementing and maintaining monitoring solutions to proactively identify and resolve database issues is essential.
• You will implement and maintain database security measures to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
• Collaboration with cross-functional teams to support application development and deployment processes is required.
• You will maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, scripts, and best practices.
• Providing guidance in the creation and modification of standards and procedures is part of the role.
• Participation in on-call rotations to enhance the reliability and performance of database systems is expected.

Requirements:

• A minimum of 10 years of operational experience in database management, with at least 6 years focused on PostgreSQL.
• Extensive experience managing PostgreSQL databases in cloud environments, particularly Azure; experience with GCP is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipelines, Database/Schema as Code tools, and Git workflows is required.
• Expert-level experience in analyzing and tuning queries to improve application performance is necessary.
• Experience with database recovery, including point-in-time recovery and transaction wraparound process remediation, is required.
• Management of the Postgres Vacuuming process and the ability to design and implement processes to prevent production-impacting events is essential.
• Experience with PostgreSQL upgrade processes is necessary.
• Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, performance tuning, and query optimization is required; experience with Azure Query Performance Insight is a plus.
• Proficiency in automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Flyway is necessary.
• Strong understanding of security practices and compliance frameworks is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for conveying complex technical concepts to various stakeholders.
• A strategic thinker with the ability to drive long-term database solutions aligned with business goals is necessary.
• Collaborative and team-oriented mindset is required, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment or independently.

Benefits:

• The base salary hiring range for this position is $108,900 to $189,700, with compensation determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
