Description:
We are looking for a Senior R&D Engineer to join our growing team.
This position reports to the Chief Science Officer and involves working closely with various key stakeholders at BenchSci.
The role focuses on building proof-of-concepts and prototypes to solve challenging problems in bioinformatics.
You will guide the successful execution of these prototypes into production-grade systems, impacting over 31,000 life scientists globally who use our platform for their research.
Responsibilities include designing and executing experiments with various off-the-shelf ML models, tracking advancements in ML and AI, and integrating POCs into existing data tools and pipelines.
You will leverage data from other teams, implement robust testing strategies, optimize ML pipelines, and utilize off-the-shelf models and APIs.
The role requires becoming an expert in at least one of the company's pipeline tools and actively collaborating with other teams.
You will communicate timelines and challenges to stakeholders, embrace a "fail fast" mentality, and develop and implement POC code quickly.
The position involves collaboratively building components of a larger system, sharing R&D discoveries, and staying updated on bleeding-edge technologies.
Requirements:
A MSc degree in life sciences (e.g., molecular genetics, cell biology, pharmacology) is required; a PhD is preferred.
A minimum of 4 years of experience as a professional developer is necessary.
Expertise in Python and programming fundamentals is required.
Intermediate/advanced SQL skills and experience with BigQuery or similar serverless data warehousing solutions are essential.
Experience with statistical analysis of datasets and Large Language Models is required.
Familiarity with cloud reference architectures for common patterns in data pipelines is necessary.
Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills are essential for this role.
