Description:
We are looking for a Senior R&D Engineer to join our growing team.
This position reports to the Chief Science Officer and involves working closely with various key stakeholders at BenchSci.
The role focuses on building proof-of-concepts and prototypes to solve challenging problems in bioinformatics.
You will guide the successful execution of prototypes into production-grade systems, impacting over 31,000 life scientists globally who use our platform for research.
Responsibilities include designing and executing experiments with ML models, tracking advancements in ML and AI, integrating POCs into existing data tools, and leveraging data from other teams.
You will implement robust testing strategies, optimize ML pipelines, utilize off-the-shelf models and APIs, and become an expert in the company's pipeline tools.
Collaboration with other teams, effective communication of timelines and challenges, and a proactive approach to testing solutions are essential.
You will develop and implement POC code quickly, build components of larger systems, and share R&D discoveries across the organization.
Requirements:
A MSc degree in life sciences (e.g., molecular genetics, cell biology, pharmacology) is required; a PhD is preferred.
A minimum of 4 years of experience as a professional developer is necessary.
Expertise in Python and programming fundamentals is required.
Intermediate/advanced SQL skills and experience with BigQuery or similar data warehousing solutions are essential.
Experience with statistical analysis of datasets is required.
Familiarity with LLMs, multimodal LMs, Agentic ML, or Reinforcement Learning is necessary.
Experience with cloud reference architectures for data pipelines is required.
Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills are essential.
