The Discogs Platform team is focused on building and supporting performant, cost-effective, reliable infrastructure, developer experience tooling, and creating organization-wide standards and velocity.
The Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Data will work closely with other engineering squads to develop and optimize scalable relational database architectures.
This role involves driving best practices and stability for the use of Kafka and change data capture, and contributing to the Platform team’s operations.
The position is remote, open to candidates located in OR, WA, CA, CO, TX, and IL.
The starting base salary range is $130,000 - $140,000 yearly.
Responsibilities include stewarding Discogs’ data stores, leading reliability efforts on Kafka implementations, establishing data contracts, refactoring MySQL database schema, mentoring engineering squads, writing documentation, working in a containerized environment, and participating in on-call rotation.

Requirements:

A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a similar area of focus, or equivalent relevant work experience is required.
Candidates must have 5+ years of experience working with Kafka and relational database management systems (RDBMS).
A minimum of 6+ years of experience in Ops, DevOps, Site Reliability, Platform, or other systems roles is necessary.
Required skills include relational database schema design, query performance optimization, administration of MySQL, Kafka cluster administration, CI/CD, GitOps, Kubernetes, AWS and cloud development, observability tools, and scripting in Shell and Python.
A track record of collaboration and mentorship, excellent written communication skills, continuous learning, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential.
Preferred skills include infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), Elasticsearch, Python frameworks, GraphQL, REST API, Hashicorp Vault, Redis, Memcached, NoSQL databases, data governance, and data security.
