The Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer will be part of the Information Systems (IS) team, responsible for maintaining Canonical’s IT production services.
This role involves driving operations automation in both private and public clouds using open source infrastructure as code software and CI/CD pipelines.
The engineer will provide feedback to developers on product performance at scale and collaborate with other teams.
Responsibilities include developing automation, collaborating with IS architects, designing services, maintaining operational responsibility for core services, and using observability tools.
The position offers uninterrupted development time for larger projects and encourages sharing of best practices within the team.
Requirements:
Candidates should have a modern view on hosting architecture driven by infrastructure as code.
A product mindset focused on developing products rather than just solutions is essential.
Python software development experience with large projects is required.
Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems is necessary.
Proven ability to manage and deploy cloud infrastructure with code is expected.
Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls is required.
Familiarity with various forms of Linux storage, including Ceph and databases, is important.
Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers is needed.
Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies is essential.
A Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related engineering field is preferred.
Clear and effective communication skills in English are required.
Candidates should be motivated, flexible, and willing to learn quickly in fast-changing environments.
A passion for open-source, especially Ubuntu or Debian, is desired.
