Remote Senior Software Engineer

Description:

• NerdWallet is seeking an experienced backend engineer to support a critical product team by building, maintaining, and optimizing backend infrastructure for innovative financial features.
• The team focuses on helping registered users build and manage their financial portfolios with confidence.
• This role is essential for enabling frontend engineers to deliver user experiences by developing scalable backend systems that integrate multiple internal and third-party data sources.
• Success in this role requires a deep understanding of frontend and product goals, proactive backend solution design, and the delivery of reliable, high-performance services.
• The engineer will work independently to drive technical execution while collaborating closely with cross-pod backend engineers, product managers, engineering leadership, and third-party integration partners.
• Responsibilities include building complex services, endpoints, and data pipelines, caring deeply about product outcomes, and pushing projects across the finish line.
• The engineer will communicate status updates, risks, and tradeoffs to the team and leadership, ensuring alignment and focus.
• Acting as the key point of contact for third-party partners, the engineer will articulate project aspects such as scope, current needs, potential changes, and prevailing issues.
• The role requires accountability and attention to detail, prioritizing observability, security, and reliability throughout the development cycle.
• The engineer will react swiftly to post-release issues and balance immediate delivery with future planning, favoring thoughtful MVPs over overengineering.

Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field is required.
• Candidates must demonstrate success in working with backend infrastructure.
• Experience managing and organizing multiple ongoing projects simultaneously is necessary.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in building scalable backend systems and APIs is required.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and GraphQL is essential.
• Advanced knowledge in Python and Go is required.
• A Master’s Degree in Computer Science is preferred.
• Experience in communicating with third-party vendors is necessary.
• Strong proficiency in monitoring and observability tools is required.
• Leadership experience in large-scale software projects involving multiple engineers and stakeholders is preferred.
• Experience in consumer credit, financial institutions, personal finance, or investment products is a plus.
