Description:
The position is for a Senior Software Engineer at CitizenShipper, a remote-first, US-based two-sided marketplace focused on moving pets and other hard-to-ship items across the country.
The company is profitable and growing, with a mission to tackle a complex problem with heart, technology, and speed.
The role requires a candidate who operates like a founder, capable of architecting, building, and shipping full features end-to-end without needing permission.
Responsibilities include architecting and shipping features across the stack, rewriting legacy flows into scalable systems, making key infrastructure decisions, and working directly with the CEO and leadership team.
The engineer will have full autonomy and accountability, focusing on outcomes rather than processes.
The current technology stack includes Node.js, Express, PostgreSQL, AWS for the backend, and React, TypeScript for the frontend, with Docker and Kubernetes for infrastructure.
Requirements:
Candidates must think and act like founders, not employees.
A minimum of 5β10+ years of serious software engineering experience is required, with a focus on product obsession and user experience.
The ideal candidate should be able to move quickly while ensuring their code is clean and tested.
They should not ask for permission and must be comfortable owning outcomes without red tape.
A willingness to work 60β80 hour weeks is expected, along with experience in leading or building products from 0 to 1.
Candidates should have a desire to look back in three years and see the impact of their contributions.
Benefits:
CitizenShipper offers a book club reimbursement of up to $50/month for professional development books.
There is a $2,000 annual budget for professional development, along with three paid days off to attend courses, conferences, or trainings.
Employees enjoy generous vacation time, five national holidays per year, and five additional bereavement days.
Once per quarter, employees can reduce their workload to 15-20 hours/week to recharge and prevent burnout.
The company provides up to 14 weeks of paid maternity/paternity leave with flexible options.
Employees receive seven days of paid sick leave annually, with extended paid leave options for serious cases.
