Description:
GiveDirectly is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to assist in designing and constructing systems for identifying, enrolling, and paying recipients of cash grants.
The role involves architecting and developing scalable systems to handle hundreds of thousands of recipients globally.
Responsibilities include improving and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, collaborating with various teams to design tools for launching payment programs, debugging issues across different layers of the stack, and advocating for engineering-driven investments.
The position reports to the Manager of Programs Engineering and involves working closely with Technical Program Management, Data teams, Finance, and Operations.
The role requires occasional travel (1-2 times per year) to one of the countries of operation for team retreats or field visits.
Requirements:

Proficiency in English is mandatory.
Minimum of 4 years of industry experience in creating production-caliber software and systems.
Experience with backend architecture, databases, cloud services, APIs, and building infrastructure for deploying software.
Familiarity with strongly-typed, object-oriented programming languages like Java, C#, Go, and scripting languages such as Python, Ruby.
Ownership and autonomy in improving systems, strong analytical skills, and effective communication.
Bonus points for experience with Python and AWS in a production environment, payments/financial software, or microservice/serverless architecture.
