Description:

  • The Senior Software Engineer, Backend position is with the Cars Agency team in British Columbia, focusing on designing, implementing, deploying, and operating complex backend systems for car rentals.
  • Responsibilities include building and maintaining a robust infrastructure supporting millions of bookings annually, solving technical and software architecture challenges, contributing to a microservices architecture system, collaborating with diverse teams, and automating operational processes.
  • The ideal candidate should have experience with microservices architecture, API integrations, API design, data-heavy platforms, gRPC/Protobuf, functional programming, cloud platforms (preferably GCP), Kubernetes, distributed systems, and backend engineering at scale.
  • Other requirements include a focus on quality, cross-functional teamwork, and potentially experience in the travel industry.

Requirements:

  • Solid understanding of microservices architecture and ability to develop Scala microservices, experience with JVM preferred
  • Experience in building and managing external API integrations
  • Strong ability to design APIs
  • Professional experience in developing data-heavy platforms or APIs
  • Familiarity with gRPC/Protobuf
  • Preferably experienced in functional programming (Java, Scala, Haskell, F#, etc.)
  • Understanding of Cloud Platforms, GCP knowledge is a plus
  • Knowledge and experience with Kubernetes
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and architectural decisions affecting performance and maintainability
  • Previous success in backend engineering roles delivering user experience at scale
  • Focus on quality, writing testable code, and scalability
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Potential experience in the travel industry
