Description:
The Senior Software Engineer, Backend position is with the Cars Agency team at a travel and e-commerce company in Ontario.
The role involves designing, implementing, deploying, and operating complex backend systems for Car Rentals distribution channels.
Responsibilities include building a robust infrastructure supporting millions of bookings, solving technical and software architecture problems, and contributing to a microservice architecture system.
The ideal candidate should have experience with microservices architecture, API integrations, API design, data-heavy platforms, gRPC/Protobuf, functional programming, Cloud Platforms (preferably GCP), Kubernetes, distributed systems, and backend engineering at scale.
The role offers opportunities to work on feature development, infrastructure, and automation processes, collaborating with diverse teams and contributing to Hopper's growth in the travel industry.
Requirements:
Solid understanding of microservices architecture and ability to develop Scala microservices (Scala knowledge preferred but not strictly required).
Experience in building and managing external API integrations.
Strong ability to design APIs and develop data-heavy platforms.
Familiarity with gRPC/Protobuf and functional programming languages like Java, Scala, Haskell, F#.
Knowledge of Cloud Platforms, preferably GCP, and experience with Kubernetes.
Understanding of distributed systems, architectural decisions affecting performance, and backend engineering at scale.
Ability to write quality, testable code, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and work in the travel industry.
