Brightwheel is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend to join their fully remote team in the US.
The mission is to provide high-quality early education for every child, supporting teachers, engaging parents, and enabling small businesses in the early education industry.
The role involves building features for the core product, ensuring customers can quickly get up and running on the Brightwheel platform.
The engineer will work in an agile environment, collaborating with product, design, and other engineers to implement new features and products.
Responsibilities include identifying opportunities for technical advancement, ensuring quality, scalability, security, and performance, and designing new software systems.
Mentorship across the engineering team is also a key aspect of the role.

Requirements:

Candidates should have 4+ years of professional experience, preferably in fast-paced early- or mid-stage startups.
Proficiency in contributing to and designing APIs using Ruby on Rails is required.
Experience with APIs consumed by mobile clients and a focus on backwards compatibility is necessary.
Familiarity with various codebase sizes and ages is expected.
Proficiency with AWS or other cloud platforms is required.
Experience in architecting distributed systems for scalability and reliability is essential.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences are necessary.
Experience with microservice or service-oriented architectures is preferred.
Familiarity with modern web applications like React.js is preferred.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) is preferred.
A strong interest in leveraging AI to improve engineering efficiency is a plus.
