Description:
The successful candidate will perform as a Senior Software Engineer to support the planning, architecture design, development, and maintenance of DFAS Enterprise Information Infrastructure Architecture and Engineering environments for DATAAPS, HQARS, and WIA systems.
The Software Engineer will focus on COBOL development on Unisys Mainframe platforms to ensure the continued effectiveness of these systems.
Duties include researching, designing, and developing software applications for departmental accounting, time and attendance, and tracking systems.
Responsibilities involve providing full lifecycle support for software systems, including development, configuration management, testing, and production support.
The role requires participation in project tracking and software lifecycle management, including development, testing, deployment, and user acceptance.
The candidate will conduct thorough analysis of system requirements and collaborate with team members to define system specifications.
The position includes identifying and implementing improvements to functional and business processes.
The Software Engineer will ensure seamless integration of software solutions with existing systems and provide ongoing customer support for users.
Responsibilities also include ensuring compliance with security standards, maintaining documentation, providing training for end users, and managing data conversion and migration processes.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, management information systems, or a related field is required.
The candidate must have 8+ years of experience in software engineering, specifically in COBOL development and mainframe systems.
Strong proficiency in COBOL programming language, particularly in Unisys Mainframe ECL environments, is essential.
Experience with AGILE methodology and Capability Maturity Model (CMM) is required.
Expertise in Quality Level Protocol (QLP) and applying it to software development processes is necessary.
The candidate must have extensive experience with system analysis, design, integration, and testing in complex environments.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills are required, particularly in large-scale software development projects.
The ability to work with both technical and business stakeholders is essential.
The candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and either have a completed and active background investigation at the Tier 1 low-risk level or be able to pass a background investigation at the Tier 1 moderate-risk level.
Excellent oral, written, and communication skills in English are required.
