Description:

  • The successful candidate will perform as a Senior Software Engineer to support the planning, architecture design, development, and maintenance of DFAS Enterprise Information Infrastructure Architecture and Engineering environments for DATAAPS, HQARS, and WIA systems.
  • The Software Engineer will focus on COBOL development on Unisys Mainframe platforms to ensure the continued effectiveness of these systems.
  • Duties include researching, designing, and developing software applications for departmental accounting, time and attendance, and tracking systems.
  • Responsibilities involve providing full lifecycle support for software systems, including development, configuration management, testing, and production support.
  • The role requires participation in project tracking and software lifecycle management, including development, testing, deployment, and user acceptance.
  • The candidate will conduct thorough analysis of system requirements and collaborate with team members to define system specifications.
  • The position includes identifying and implementing improvements to functional and business processes.
  • The Software Engineer will ensure seamless integration of software solutions with existing systems and provide ongoing customer support for users.
  • Responsibilities also include ensuring compliance with security standards, maintaining documentation, providing training for end users, and managing data conversion and migration processes.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, management information systems, or a related field is required.
  • The candidate must have 8+ years of experience in software engineering, specifically in COBOL development and mainframe systems.
  • Strong proficiency in COBOL programming language, particularly in Unisys Mainframe ECL environments, is essential.
  • Experience with AGILE methodology and Capability Maturity Model (CMM) is required.
  • Expertise in Quality Level Protocol (QLP) and applying it to software development processes is necessary.
  • The candidate must have extensive experience with system analysis, design, integration, and testing in complex environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills are required, particularly in large-scale software development projects.
  • The ability to work with both technical and business stakeholders is essential.
  • The candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and either have a completed and active background investigation at the Tier 1 low-risk level or be able to pass a background investigation at the Tier 1 moderate-risk level.
  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills in English are required.
