Description:
As a Senior Software Engineer at Kong, you will design, develop, and optimize API gateway and cloud-native connectivity solutions.
You will work on high-performance, scalable software that helps organizations manage APIs and microservices across cloud, on-prem, and hybrid environments.
Your responsibilities include maintaining Kongโs Gateway Operator and Ingress Controller to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability.
You will contribute to open-source projects and engage with the community to drive innovation in API connectivity.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams (engineering, product, DevOps) to build new features and enhance existing functionality is expected.
You will write clean, efficient, and well-tested code in Golang, ensuring high code quality through automated testing and peer reviews.
Optimizing performance for high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems will be part of your role.
You will build and maintain integrations with Kubernetes and cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
Participation in technical design discussions, architecting solutions, and contributing to technical roadmaps is required.
Troubleshooting complex system issues and ensuring high availability and resilience will be part of your daily tasks.
You will mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of innovation and collaboration.
Staying up to date with emerging trends in cloud computing, Kubernetes, and service meshes is essential.
Requirements:
You must have 5+ years of software engineering experience, focusing on backend development.
Proficiency in Golang is required, or strong experience in another modern programming language with the ability to ramp up in Golang.
A deep knowledge of Kubernetes and the wider cloud-native ecosystem is necessary.
Experience in designing and building high-performance, scalable distributed systems is essential.
Familiarity with APIs, microservices, and networking (L4/L7 concepts) is required.
A strong understanding of observability, monitoring, and debugging techniques in cloud environments is needed.
Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure is necessary.
You should be able to contribute to and navigate open-source projects.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a remote-first, distributed team are required.
Excellent communication skills, with a passion for knowledge sharing and mentoring, are essential.
This position is open to remote candidates located in Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Sweden, and the UK.
