Description:

BlackSky is a real-time intelligence company that operates a space-based intelligence platform providing satellite imagery and analytics.
The company is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Mission Planning Engineering team to develop and maintain automated operations for the BlackSky constellation.
The role involves software system design, data structures, efficient data storage, software performance, and algorithm implementation.
Responsibilities include contributing to mission planning, modeling satellite subsystems, developing production-level software in Go, and supporting ongoing constellation operations.
The engineer will translate product concepts into engineering requirements and provide occasional 24/7 support during critical operations.
The position may require independent design and implementation of software improvements with minimal supervision.

Requirements:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics, or a related computational field is required.
At least eight years of relevant software development experience is necessary.
Familiarity with satellite principles such as orbital mechanics and satellite systems is essential.
Experience in writing technical requirements and driving them to implementation is required.
Expert proficiency in compiled multi-threaded programming languages and working knowledge of Go or Python is needed.
Strong knowledge of software design, maintenance, and implementation, including data structures and algorithm efficiency, is required.
Candidates must demonstrate initiative in problem-solving and possess strong team cooperation skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to manage multiple concurrent activities.
Self-guided software development experience as both an individual contributor and technical team lead is required.
U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
