Gather is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Performance Systems to enhance remote work experiences through virtual offices.
The role involves planning and building systems to address performance issues across Gather's stack, including desktop applications and GPU-bound features.
Responsibilities include creating a framework for reproducible performance tests, designing performance benchmarks, and investigating performance issues.
The engineer will collaborate with teams to optimize software performance and utilize debugging tools to identify improvement areas.
Conducting performance experiments to validate improvements in key metrics and fostering a culture of performance awareness throughout the development lifecycle are also key tasks.
The position requires driving the long-term front-end infrastructure vision and influencing product teams to deliver high-performance products.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 2+ years of experience in performance profiling, analysis, debugging, and optimization across various systems.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in designing and executing reproducible performance experiments is required, along with a strong understanding of key performance metrics.
Applicants should have at least 4 years of experience with TypeScript; experience in C++ or Rust is a plus.
Excellent data analysis skills and the ability to present performance metrics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders are essential.
The ability to solve complex performance issues and break down large problems into smaller, testable hypotheses is necessary.
Candidates should demonstrate intrinsic motivation, strong problem-solving skills, and a desire to enhance customer experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with technical leadership abilities, are required.
