Description:

Gather is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Performance Systems to enhance remote work experiences through virtual offices.
The role involves planning and building systems to address performance issues across Gather's complex product, which includes a full audio/video system powered by WebRTC and a React-based web application.
Responsibilities include building a framework for reproducible performance tests, designing performance benchmarks, investigating performance issues, collaborating with engineers, leveraging debugging tools, conducting performance experiments, fostering a culture of performance testing, and driving front-end infrastructure strategy.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 2+ years of experience in performance profiling, analysis, debugging, and optimization across various systems (frontend, backend, desktop, or GPU-bound).
A minimum of 2 years of experience in designing and executing reproducible performance experiments with a strong understanding of key performance metrics is required.
Applicants should have 4+ years of experience with TypeScript, and experience in C++ or Rust is a plus.
Excellent data analysis skills are necessary to interpret performance metrics and present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
The ability to solve complex performance issues and decompose large problems into smaller, testable hypotheses is essential.
Candidates should demonstrate intrinsic motivation and the ability to own and solve complex problems independently.
A strong desire to enhance customer experience, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and technical leadership abilities are required.
An open and growth mindset for feedback, resourcefulness, a bias toward action, and a tolerance for balancing quality and speed are important traits.
