Description:

  • Cruise is seeking a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer for its AI Foundations team, focusing on building essential AI infrastructure for self-driving vehicles.
  • The role involves leading the vision and strategy for ML systems, training infrastructure, and deploying large models to on-vehicle hardware.
  • Responsibilities include being a strategic thought leader, defining execution processes, and contributing to the overall needs and strategy from data to deployment.
  • The engineer will utilize their expertise in data characteristics, model architectures, and optimization techniques to analyze modeling results and improve data quality.
  • The position requires collaboration with various teams to manage risks and achieve cross-departmental goals.
  • The engineer will also conduct technical interviews, onboard, and mentor junior engineers and interns.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have 5+ years of experience working on ML systems for training and deploying complex ML models using state-of-the-art techniques.
  • Experience with scaling challenges related to large foundational models is essential.
  • A passion for self-driving technology and attention to detail is required.
  • A proven track record of solving complex problems collaboratively on larger teams is necessary.
  • Candidates should possess a startup mentality, be open to dealing with unknowns, and have strong coding skills.
  • Leadership experience in planning and executing cross-functional initiatives is required.
  • An in-depth understanding of the software development lifecycle and best practices is necessary.
  • A PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience is required.
