Description:

  • The Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer at Cruise will be part of the Behaviors Teams responsible for developing machine learning models for self-driving vehicles to navigate urban environments safely and smoothly.
  • The role involves working on various exciting challenges such as predicting the behavior of nearby agents like cars, buses, pedestrians, and animals, generating safe trajectories, and optimizing trajectories for safety, comfort, and customer experience.
  • Collaboration with Perception, Robotics, and Controls partners is essential to gather data from sensors, simulation data, and maps to enable the vehicle to follow planned paths accurately.
  • The position requires exploring, prototyping, and validating new algorithms, optimizing on-road performance for models, guiding technology choices, and influencing others in technical debates.
  • The Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer will drive long-term planning, establish scalable processes, and foster a collaborative culture of testing, safety, and documentation.
  • The role also involves defining and embodying Cruise engineering culture and principles, pursuing transformative technologies, and ensuring high-quality product offerings.

Requirements:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in CS/CE/EE or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience in state-of-the-art deep learning techniques, ML frameworks like Tensorflow, Caffe, and PyTorch, and machine learning and classification.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or C++, excellent mathematical reasoning skills, and a passion for self-driving car technology.
  • Track record of solving complex problems collaboratively, startup mentality, and expertise in writing production quality code.
  • Leadership experience in planning and executing cross-functional initiatives, technical strategy, and vision for engineering teams.
  • Bonus points for a PhD in machine learning or computer science, experience with ROS, OpenCV, Gazebo, or PCL, CUDA, deploying prediction models in real-world environments, and autonomous driving technologies.
