Description:

  • Shield AI is a venture-backed defense technology company founded in 2015, focused on protecting service members and civilians with intelligent systems.
  • The company is building an AI pilot named Hivemind, which has successfully flown various aircraft including an F-16 and a V-BAT drone.
  • As a Senior Staff Perception Software Engineer, you will be part of the HMX Perception team, conducting software development that integrates classical state estimation techniques, sensor fusion, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and machine perception.
  • Your responsibilities will include writing production quality software in C++, producing an Assured Position, Navigation, and Timing (A-PNT) system for reliable autonomy in GNSS-degraded environments, and extending Shield AI’s state estimation framework for new sensors and missions.
  • You will also write test code to validate software with simulated and real-world data, collaborate with hardware and test teams, enhance sensor models in a high-fidelity simulation environment, and work in a fast-paced, collaborative development environment.

Requirements:

  • A BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a similar degree, or equivalent practical experience is required.
  • You must have the ability to develop, benchmark, debug, and deploy software-based algorithms.
  • A minimum of 10 years of related experience is typically required with a Bachelor’s degree; or 9 years with a Master’s degree; or 7 years with a PhD; or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating and working with sensor payloads in the DoD space is necessary.
  • Proficiency in sensor fusion for noisy high-bandwidth exteroceptive sensors on compute-constrained systems is required.
  • A solid foundation in state estimation, object detection, data association, probabilistic robotics, and signal processing is essential.
  • Experience working on projects with 10 or more contributors is expected.
  • You should offer fast, efficient, and effective problem-solving approaches and be an exceptional collaborator and communicator.
  • Comfortability within Unix environments is necessary, along with being a hard-working, trustworthy teammate who holds high standards.
  • You must be able to obtain a SECRET clearance.
