Description:
Common App is a national not-for-profit organization focused on improving access, equity, and integrity in the college admission process.
The organization supports over 1 million students annually, including many first-generation college applicants.
The Senior UX Writer will report to the Senior Director of User Experience and be part of a talented UX team.
This role involves leading, developing, and maintaining user-friendly content across Common App products.
The Senior UX Writer will collaborate with designers, researchers, product managers, and other stakeholders to create compelling, human-centered content.
Responsibilities include driving tone, language, and content optimization to align with user needs and business objectives.
The position requires a deep knowledge of human-centered design and design-thinking methodologies.
Requirements:
Candidates must reside in the United States.
A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of 4-6 years of experience in UX writing, content design, or related fields is necessary.
Candidates must be highly proficient in human-centered design methodology and usability best practices in content development and editing.
Extensive experience in creating clear, concise, and user-friendly copy for diverse audiences is required.
Exceptional communication, active listening, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills are essential.
Proficiency in design and documentation tools such as Figma, FigJam, Google Docs, and Confluence is required.
The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines without compromising quality is necessary.
A deep knowledge of accessibility best practices, including Section 508 guidelines and WCAG specifications, is required.
Candidates must be able to set aside personal biases to understand actual user needs.
The ability to remain calm and exercise good judgment under pressure is essential.
Candidates should be effective as both individual contributors and as part of a diverse, virtual team.
Experience in higher education or with student-related digital products is preferred.
Knowledge or experience using generative AI in UX writing and design processes is a plus.
A passion for higher education is also a desirable trait.
