Description:

Empirical is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (PHP + WordPress + MySQL) for a fast-growing AI-powered manufacturing solutions company.
The role involves developing, maintaining, and optimizing backend services using WordPress and PHP.
Responsibilities include designing and implementing custom WordPress plugins and API endpoints, ensuring efficient queries and performance optimization with MySQL databases, and applying SOLID principles for scalable backend architecture.
The engineer will implement unit and integration testing for high code quality, streamline development through automation processes, and manage version control with Git or Bitbucket.
Collaboration with the frontend team to ensure seamless API integrations is also a key part of the role.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 5+ years of backend development experience with PHP, WordPress, and MySQL.
A strong knowledge of security best practices in PHP and WordPress development is required.
Experience in building and consuming REST APIs is essential.
Proficiency in database optimization techniques and experience with automated testing frameworks are necessary.
Candidates should have version control experience with Git or Bitbucket.
Proven ability to work independently and in Agile environments (e.g., Jira, sprints) is expected.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, along with strong documentation and communication skills, are required.
