Remote Site Reliability Engineer, Gitaly:Git

Description:

• The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with Gitaly at GitLab will work on improving the availability and reliability of the Gitaly fleet on GitLab.com.
• They will collaborate closely with Backend Engineers to ensure new Gitaly features can run at scale and be deployed to production safely.
• Responsibilities include maintaining Gitaly’s environments within GitLab’s SaaS offerings, cost and performance optimization, capacity planning, migrations, and debugging production issues.
• The SRE will participate in architectural discussions, design RPC interfaces for the Gitaly service, and develop production automation and tooling for Gitaly.
• They will instrument, monitor, and profile Gitaly in the production environment, build dashboards and alerts for service health monitoring, and conduct acceptance testing of features.
• The role involves educating team members on best practices for high availability, writing performant and maintainable code, and responding to user emergencies and support requests.

Requirements:

• Experience running highly-available systems in production environments at scale is mandatory.
• Hands-on experience with Cloud technologies, including Kubernetes, is mandatory.
• Proven professional experience building, debugging, and optimizing software in large-scale, high-volume environments is mandatory.
• Good understanding of building instrumented, observable software systems is mandatory.
• Highly desirable skills include experience with Terraform infrastructure as code, writing and testing quality code in Go, understanding git’s internal data structures, experience with gRPC, and willingness to learn Ruby.
