Description:
This role is an opportunity for a hands-on, but literally hands-off, technologist with a passion for Linux to build a career with Canonical and drive the success with those leveraging Ubuntu and open source products.
The IS team at Canonical supports and maintains all of Canonical’s IT production services, running services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users.
As an SRE & Gitops engineer, you will drive operations automation in both private and public clouds using open source infrastructure as code software and CI/CD pipelines.
You will define infrastructure as code and provide critical feedback to developers on Canonical products and open-source technologies.
You will collaborate with a global team of SREs to provide the best possible services to Canonical, its customers, and the Ubuntu Community.
Responsibilities include developing infrastructure as code practices, automating software operations, maintaining operational responsibility for core services, and collaborating with development teams.
Requirements:
You must have deep experience and knowledge to define operations in code, using version control, peer review, and CI/CD.
A strong modern engineering background is required, including peer-review, unit testing, SCM, CI/CD, and Agile methodologies.
Python software development experience with large projects is necessary.
Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls is essential.
You should have an affinity with various forms of Linux storage, from Ceph to Databases.
Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers is required.
Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies is necessary.
A Bachelor's degree or greater, preferably in computer science or a related engineering field, is required.
You must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English across various platforms.
You should be motivated, able to troubleshoot from kernel to web, and willing to ask others when appropriate.
A willingness to be flexible and learn new things quickly is essential.
You should be inspired by the needs of fast-changing environments and be happy to work within distributed teams.
A passion for and familiarity with open-source, especially Ubuntu or Debian, is required.
