Description:

The Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer role at Canonical involves supporting and maintaining all IT production services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users.
Responsibilities include driving operations automation, utilizing open source infrastructure as code software, and improving Canonical products by providing feedback to developers.
The engineer will work on developing infrastructure as code practices, automating software operations, and enhancing the resilience and scalability of cloud and container portfolios.
Other duties include maintaining core services, collaborating with development teams, troubleshooting, and setting up monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
The position also involves sharing knowledge with team members, providing assistance to engineering and support peers, and handling time-critical escalations.

Requirements:

Deep experience in defining operations in code, using version control, peer review, and CI/CD for applications and infrastructure changes.
Strong background in modern engineering practices like peer-review, unit testing, SCM, CI/CD, and Agile methodologies.
Proficiency in Python software development, particularly with large projects.
Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, firewalls, storage solutions like Ceph, and databases.
Hands-on experience in administering enterprise Linux servers and extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related engineering field.
Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to troubleshoot from kernel to web.
Willingness to learn new technologies quickly, work in distributed teams, and be passionate about open-source, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
