Description:

  • Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, particularly known for its platform, Ubuntu.
  • The company is hiring a software architect for Canonical LXD and MicroCloud to enhance cloud computing technologies.
  • The role involves making clusters of compute with system containers or virtual machines easy to set up and reliable.
  • LXD is a modern Golang system container and virtual machine orchestrator used on various Linux platforms.
  • The software architect will drive the architecture, design, and evolution of LXD and Canonical MicroCloud.
  • Responsibilities include leading the architecture, mentoring colleagues, developing in Golang and C, reviewing code, ensuring product security and performance, and displaying technical leadership.
  • This is a home-based position available in EMEA and the Americas, with global travel twice annually for company events.

Requirements:

  • An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university is required.
  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a STEM field is necessary.
  • Candidates should demonstrate drive and a history of exceeding expectations.
  • Technical leadership skills and the ability to motivate and direct a team are essential.
  • Candidates must be well-organized, self-starting, and able to meet deadlines.
  • A professional manner in interactions with colleagues, partners, and the community is expected.
  • Experience with Go and C programming languages is required.
  • Knowledge of storage, networking, virtualization, and container technologies is necessary.
  • Experience with concurrent and distributed systems is essential.
  • Attention to detail and a focus on performance are important.
  • Professional written and spoken English skills are required.
  • Experience with Linux, preferably Debian or Ubuntu, is necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability are essential traits.
