Description:
The Software Developer will play a crucial role in advancing the CDC Foundation's mission by developing and maintaining software applications for a public health association that serves local, tribal, and territorial populations.
This position is aligned with the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), a federally funded program aimed at helping public health agencies improve their information systems.
The developer will work with public health professionals within the Vermont Department of Health (VDH) and IT leaders from the Vermont Agency of Digital Services (ADS).
Responsibilities include transitioning systems from hosted SQL databases to Azure cloud native systems, developing new databases, and preparing programs for data sharing via a cross-department data warehouse.
The role requires strong programming skills, a solid understanding of software development principles, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Ideal candidates should be comfortable solving technical problems, explaining technical design architecture, and leading organizational strategy and change.
The position is remote, based in the United States, with a work schedule of 8am – 5pm Eastern Standard Time, and may require occasional meetings outside these hours.
The salary range is $103,500-$143,500 per year, based on experience and qualifications, and the position is grant funded with an end date of June 30, 2025.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is required.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is necessary.
Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, .NET, VB.NET, SQL, or JavaScript is required.
Experience with software development frameworks and libraries, including MVC, jQuery, Razor, and Bootstrap, is essential.
Candidates must have experience in web development, relational databases, and using Windows operating systems.
Knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL) and version control tools (e.g., Git) is required.
Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, and deploying software applications is necessary.
Familiarity with engineering best practices such as source control, automated testing, continuous integration and deployment, and peer review is essential.
Experience with agile development methodologies, software design patterns, and best practices is required.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities are necessary.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical partners effectively.
Candidates must be able to analyze complex technical requirements and translate them into scalable software solutions.
Experience working on cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams that deliver digital products and services in an incremental, user-focused environment is essential.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and priorities is required.
Candidates should have outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships with colleagues and partners.
Demonstrated ability to work well independently and within teams is necessary.
Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams is required.
