Description:
The Software Developer will play a crucial role in advancing the CDC Foundation's mission by developing and maintaining software applications for a public health association that specifically serves local, tribal, and territorial populations.
This role is aligned to the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), a federally funded CDC Foundation program aimed at helping public health agencies improve their information systems.
The position will involve collaboration with public health professionals within the Vermont Department of Health (VDH) and IT leaders from the Vermont Agency of Digital Services (ADS).
Responsibilities include updating Vermont’s Immunization Registry, transitioning small niche data systems and MS Access databases to modern platforms, and preparing for data sharing via a cross-department data warehouse.
Success in this position requires strong programming skills, a solid understanding of software development principles, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Ideal candidates should be comfortable solving technical problems, explaining technical design architecture, and leading organizational strategy and change.
The candidate should have strong experience with software and web development, relational databases, and operating systems, as well as knowledge of engineering best practices.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is required.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is necessary.
Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, .NET, VB.NET, SQL, or JavaScript is required.
Experience with software development frameworks and libraries (e.g., MVC, jQuery, Razor, Bootstrap) is essential.
The candidate must have experience in web development, relational databases, and using Windows operating systems.
Knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL) and version control tools (e.g., Git) is required.
Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, and deploying software applications is necessary.
Knowledge of engineering best practices such as source control, automated testing, continuous integration and deployment, and peer review is essential.
Experience with agile development methodologies, software design patterns, and best practices is required.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities are necessary.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, along with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical partners effectively.
The candidate must be able to analyze complex technical requirements and translate them into scalable software solutions.
Experience working on cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams that deliver digital products and services in an incremental, user-focused environment is necessary.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and priorities is required.
The ability to switch between projects and outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential.
The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work well independently and within teams, and have experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $103,500-$143,500 per year, plus benefits, with individual salary offers based on experience and qualifications.
This is a full-time remote position, allowing for flexibility in work location.
The position is grant funded and is a limited-term opportunity, ending on June 30, 2025.
