Description:
The Software Engineer will develop and maintain software applications for a public health association serving local, tribal, and territorial populations.
This role is part of the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), a federally funded program aimed at enhancing public health agencies' technology and data capabilities.
The position is remote, but candidates must be based in the United States, preferably in the EST time zone.
The salary range for this position is $103,500-$143,500 per year, with individual offers based on experience and qualifications.
The work schedule is from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm EST.
This is a grant-funded, limited-term opportunity ending on June 30, 2025.
Responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software applications, writing clean and efficient code, participating in software design and architecture, conducting thorough testing, collaborating with quality assurance teams, and staying updated with software development trends.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is required.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is necessary.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Ruby, Python, Java, C++, or JavaScript is required.
Experience with software development frameworks and libraries, including React, Angular, and Node.js, is essential.
Candidates must have experience in web development, relational databases, and Unix-like operating systems.
Knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL, Oracle, MongoDB) and version control tools (e.g., Git) is required.
Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, and deploying software applications is necessary.
Knowledge of engineering best practices, including source control, automated testing, continuous integration and deployment, and peer review is essential.
Experience with agile development methodologies and software design patterns is required.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities are necessary.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, along with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical partners.
Candidates must be able to analyze complex technical requirements and translate them into scalable software solutions.
Experience working on cross-functional teams in a user-focused environment is necessary.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and priorities is required.
Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential, along with the ability to develop productive working relationships.
Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams is necessary.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
Preferred qualifications include Salesforce development experience using APEX coding, experience with Informatica ETL and MDM, and proficiency in API integration.
