Description:

  • The Software Engineer will develop and maintain software applications for a public health association serving local, tribal, and territorial populations.
  • This role is part of the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), a federally funded program aimed at enhancing public health agencies' technology and data capabilities.
  • The position is remote but candidates must be based in the United States.
  • The salary range is $103,500-$143,500 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • The position is grant funded and limited-term, ending on June 30, 2025.
  • Responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software applications, writing clean and efficient code, participating in software design and architecture, implementing best practices, conducting thorough testing, collaborating with quality assurance teams, and providing guidance on new tools and technologies.
  • The Software Engineer will work closely with a collaborative team to modernize public health systems in Hamilton County, impacting public health professionals' ability to analyze health data.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is necessary, with 7-10 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, PHP, Java, VBA, or JavaScript is required.
  • Experience with software development libraries like React, Angular, or Node.js is necessary.
  • Proficiency in web development and relational databases is required.
  • Knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL, MongoDB) and version control tools is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, and deploying software applications is required, with a preference for front-end development experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering best practices such as source control, automated testing, continuous integration and deployment, and peer review is necessary.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical partners.
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams in a user-focused environment is necessary.
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and priorities is required.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and within teams.
  • Experience working in a virtual environment with remote technologies is necessary.
