Description:
FiscalNote is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join their Data Engineering team.
The role involves scaling and improving data processing capabilities by designing, building, and supporting services that manage a large collection of policy and policymaker data across various sectors.
Responsibilities include creating reliable systems for timely and accurate data delivery, making it accessible and actionable.
The engineer will design systems that integrate with applications and data science to provide automated analysis and reporting for customers.
The Data Engineering Team manages the full lifecycle of open data in FiscalNote's Public Policy and Transcriptions products, including dataset identification, ingestion, processing, augmentation, storage, and accessibility.
The team ensures the quality and usability of a growing collection of structured and unstructured data related to policy and government actions.
The data supports multiple client-facing products and internal tools, forming the core foundation of FiscalNote’s success.
The position requires collaboration with team members to tackle technical challenges and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Requirements:
Candidates should have 3-5+ years of professional experience as an individual contributor in software development, focusing on backend or data engineering.
Strong SQL skills and a solid understanding of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL or MySQL, are required.
Significant experience in designing and developing within a networked architecture, utilizing APIs and/or message-based communication, is essential.
Proficiency with a version control system, especially git, is necessary.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Experience in maintaining a successful working relationship with Product and UI/UX teams is required.
Familiarity with automated test and/or build systems is important.
Proficiency in Python is preferred, along with experience running production services on Linux.
Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) is preferred.
Experience with containerization tools, especially Docker and Kubernetes, is a plus.
Knowledge of document-based stores (NoSQL, JSONB, Elasticsearch) and experience with Airflow are advantageous.
Experience in writing and maintaining code in PHP and familiarity with video and audio conversion tools like ffmpeg and yt-dlp are also beneficial.
