Description:
Planet is a company that designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites, delivering a vast dataset of information through a cloud-based platform.
The Software Engineer II role on the Professional Services team is crucial for transforming customer requirements into scalable software solutions that maximize the value of Planet’s data products.
The engineer will collaborate with Solution Architects to implement and deploy customized software solutions for top accounts, focusing on building software architectures, developing toolkits and pipelines, and automating workflows.
Responsibilities include collaborating on tailored software solutions, developing custom software toolkits and APIs, creating user interfaces, maintaining software architectures, implementing automated processes, improving internal tools, supporting product adoption, scoping new projects, packaging releases, and analyzing technical problems.
The role requires a technical background, creativity, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively to develop high-quality software solutions.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 2+ years of experience in a software engineering role, preferably in a geospatial or data-intensive environment.
Proven programming skills in Python are required, including experience with building data pipelines, developing APIs, and automating workflows.
Familiarity with cloud-based architectures, containerization, and CI/CD processes is necessary.
Experience with geospatial libraries and tools (e.g., GDAL, QGIS, Esri software) and the ability to manipulate vector and raster data is essential.
Candidates should have experience with Linux systems and shell scripting.
A demonstrated ability to translate technical requirements into scalable software solutions is required.
Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for innovation are important.
Experience articulating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences is necessary.
Familiarity with JIRA or similar issue tracking software is required.
A degree in GIS, Computer Science, Remote Sensing, Geography, or a related field is necessary.
