Description:

Shippo is seeking a Backend Software Engineer III to join the Address Validation, Tracking, and Pickups team, responsible for developing new features, building infrastructure, and maintaining current services.
The role involves implementing, testing, and deploying software services with high SLAs that can handle millions of requests a day using a BDD approach.
Responsibilities include verifying performance and correctness of systems, refactoring existing systems for optimal performance, contributing to design reviews, participating in peer reviews, and building automated test suites for new features.
The engineer will work with a sense of urgency and iterate quickly in an Agile process, demonstrating exceptional problem-solving skills to translate business challenges into technical solutions.
The position requires joining the on-call rotation and responding quickly to system incidents.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 6+ years of experience in software development.
Proficiency in at least one server-side programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java, Ruby) and database languages (SQL) is required.
Experience with a server-side MVC framework (e.g., Django, .NET, Spring, Rails, Phoenix) is necessary.
A solid understanding of object-oriented programming and familiarity with various design and architectural patterns is essential.
Candidates should have the ability to identify opportunities, foster a culture of innovation, and build for scale.
High ownership and attention to system reliability and monitoring are expected.

A BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is required.

The compensation for this role ranges from $133,000 to $181,000 annually, with a focus on fair and equitable compensation practices. Total compensation includes equity and other benefits noted in the Shippo package.
