Description:

  • Shippo is seeking a Software Engineer III to join their Labels team, which is responsible for building and maintaining the label core API and critical carrier integrations such as USPS, UPS, and FedEx.
  • The role involves designing, implementing, testing, and deploying software services that can handle millions of requests daily with high service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Responsibilities include ensuring scalability and maintainability through microservices, enhancing the CI/CD pipeline for safe production releases, and verifying system performance and correctness.
  • The engineer will design and maintain database schemas for large-scale services, architect systems for optimal performance, and participate in peer reviews and testing.
  • Collaboration with business teams to provide input on new product ideas and functionality is essential, along with being on-call to respond to system incidents.
  • The position also requires championing testing procedures and assisting with gathering business requirements, development, and verification.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have 6+ years of experience in software development, focusing on highly available, scalable, distributed systems.
  • Experience in building and maintaining APIs, services, and databases is required.
  • Proficiency in server-side programming languages such as Go, Python, Java, or Ruby, along with SQL databases, is necessary.
  • Familiarity with server-side frameworks like Django, .NET, Spring, Rails, or Phoenix is expected.
  • A strong understanding of software development principles, object-oriented programming, and design patterns is essential.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
  • Candidates should possess troubleshooting skills for optimizing backend applications for performance and scalability.
  • Strong collaboration and clear communication skills are required to work effectively with cross-functional teams and articulate technical ideas.
  • A mindset of continuous learning and a BSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field (or equivalent experience) is necessary.
