Description:
Wave is seeking a Software Engineer III for the Observability team in Toronto, Ontario, with the option for remote work.
The role involves collaborating closely with platform and product engineering teams to enhance visibility, reliability, and performance across services.
Responsibilities include building, scaling, and maintaining Observability-as-Code (OaC) libraries to improve monitoring and observability for engineering teams.
The engineer will work with Observability Champions and engineers to understand challenges, suggest improvements, and shape future training sessions.
Collaboration with platform teams is essential to enhance production debugging, service health insights, and system reliability.
The position requires partnering with observability vendors to evaluate capabilities, influence roadmaps, and contribute to cost optimization initiatives.
The engineer will contribute technical guides, internal documentation, and training sessions to promote observability best practices.
Support for engineers will be provided by answering questions, troubleshooting issues, and debugging problems related to observability tooling.
The role involves writing clear, concise, elegant, and well-tested code in Python, Ruby, and/or JavaScript.
The engineer will work as part of a small, agile, integrated product team focused on continual improvement and learning.
Continuous learning of new technical skills with tools or frameworks needed to execute tasks is expected.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 3+ years of professional experience with a combination of Python, Ruby, JavaScript, and/or other programming languages.
Experience with observability and alerting tools such as DataDog and PagerDuty is required.
An interest in working on technical projects from inception to delivery is essential.
Candidates should be able to operate and monitor highly available systems in production or be willing to learn quickly.
A strong emphasis on writing testable, modular, maintainable, simple, and well-documented code is necessary.
Experience with web application and/or distributed systems development is required.
Candidates should feel comfortable using the terminal.
Strong written and oral communication skills are essential for this role.
There is an occasional requirement to be on-call outside of standard hours.
