Description:
Shippo is seeking a Software Engineer to join their Rating team, which is responsible for building and maintaining core APIs and critical carrier integrations such as USPS, UPS, and FedEx.
The role involves designing, implementing, testing, and deploying software services that can handle millions of requests daily with high service level agreements (SLAs).
Responsibilities include ensuring scalability and maintainability through microservices, enhancing the CI/CD pipeline, verifying system performance, participating in peer and design reviews, and collaborating with business teams on new product ideas.
The engineer will define and monitor operational metrics, work in an agile process, mentor junior engineers, and respond to system incidents as part of the on-call rotation.
Exceptional problem-solving skills are required to translate business challenges into technical solutions.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 6+ years of experience in software development.
Proficiency in server-side programming languages such as Python, Go, Java, or Ruby, as well as database languages like SQL is required.
Experience with server-side MVC frameworks (e.g., Django, .NET, Spring, Rails, Phoenix) is necessary.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all organizational levels are essential.
Candidates should have a proven track record of building and supporting scalable APIs, services, or applications.
Experience integrating with APIs using REST, SOAP, gRPC, and other technologies is required.
A solid understanding of object-oriented programming and familiarity with various design and architectural patterns is necessary.
Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required.
A deep understanding of customer needs and a passion for customer success are essential.
Candidates should be able to identify opportunities and foster a culture of innovation.
A BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is required.
