Description:

This position can be based out of San Francisco, New York, or remote, accepting candidates from many states.
The role involves leading the development of cutting-edge payment integration solutions within the Payments Core organization.
The company supports nearly 40 currencies in cross-border payments from the U.S. to 131 countries and aims to expand into new markets and support local payment rails in EMEA, LATAM, and APAC.
The core platform at Modern Treasury serves as an interface between customers and their banks, facilitating money movement, automating back-office work, and recording transaction ledgers.
The company processes over $750 trillion a year via bank payments, significantly more than card payments.
The role will directly impact the evolution of the payments product, shaping the future of instant payments for businesses.
The first week includes onboarding, meeting leadership, shipping the first commit, addressing small tickets, and reading industry primers.
Within the first six weeks, the engineer will ship a major project and shadow customer and partner meetings.
By the six-month mark, the engineer will lead a project to improve performance and payment workflows, collaborate with the product team, shape the roadmap, and mentor new engineers.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Experience collaborating with product teams to design features and customer-centric workflows is required.
Familiarity with U.S. domestic and/or global payment rails (ACH, Wires, Swift, RTP) and payments standards (ISO20022, NACHA, BAI) is necessary.
Proficiency in SQL/Relational databases is required, with experience in batched payments being a plus.
Candidates should have experience mentoring and growing engineering teams and contributing to technical direction.
Creative problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn the nuances of both domestic and international payment systems are essential.
